Battling the Scourge of Ransomware: How a Three-Pronged Approach Maximizes Protection

At one time, recovering from backup alone was the first step in addressing ransomware. Today, though, what used to be the front line in the battle is now considered the last bastion of a defense-in-depth strategy that relies on detection, prevention, and, ultimately, the ability to recover. During this discussion, Scott D. Lowe, CEO of ActualTech Media, will share with you key insights into each of these critical elements of a comprehensive ransomware readiness strategy and help you identify ways to increase your organization’s resiliency.

Another Way to Think About the Business Case for Investment in Cyber Security

Cyber security is a high priority for many organizations, but they often find it difficult to make a business case for infrastructure investment in areas such as data protection and management. A different way to approach this is to think not just of risk management and technology, but to structure the investment case around business advantage as well. Namely, to switch the conversation from infrastructure to what’s good for the business and all its stakeholders.

Topics considered will include:

  • Is information an enterprise asset or is it confined to groups and departments?
  • What the business benefits could be if it were made securely available to more users?
  • It’s vital to move at the pace of the business and IT, not that of a vendor.
  • The importance of broadening file access in terms of business advantage, rather than IT

Thought Leadership Roundtable

Strategies and Technological Approaches for Addressing the Remote Access to File Data Problem, Data Explosion, and Why You Need an Integrated Technology Approach

Plan to attend this session for an engaging three way conversation that discusses a technology approach to the remote-access-to-file-data problem in the context of a data explosion and hence need for low-cost cold data storage. Conversation to explain why an integrated technology approach is better and why. Discussion to specifically address:

  • How and why the NFS and CIFS file services protocols are inefficient when used for remote access by single users wanting to run applications such as VDI.
  • How a separate presentation access layer of software can be integrated with the file services layer to combat the remote access inefficiencies. What interface functions are needed to integrate or bridge the two layers and why?
  • How and why a cloud-based file services layer remedies the disadvantages of central data center-based file storage systems. For example, they no longer need file lifecycle management (HSM) / storage management functionality to tier data off to cheap longer-term storage in the public cloud -because that functionality can be integrated into a cloud-based file services system.
